Contrary to popular opinion Jesus is not from the West. When Jesus walked the earth, he lived in the East. Eastern Peoples have always had a better understanding of what it means to live in community. Every metaphor in the Bible which describes our progress in the Gospel is communal. Therefore, as Jesus-followers in the West we must fight the temptation to reduce our faith to an individualized experience. Although our faith is personal, it is not private. Followers of Jesus are forever united to Jesus, and subsequently, forever united to one another. The call of Christ is inescapably communal.
God created community to serve as the hub of the wheel driving the Gospel from our neighborhoods to the nations. We receive in community. We give in community. We encourage in community as we seek to build one another up in Christ. Community is a God given resource enabling us to live together, forgive one another, and seek the good of the city. Our community reveals things about God that we could never discover alone. God designed life to be lived in community. At Global Church we make every effort to live and experience life in community.
